    Test is over
Well I finished the test. I scored 430 on verbal and 500 on math. I don't get my scores on the essay part for a couple of weeks. I think that these scores will be good enough that I will not have to take the test again but I do have a call in to the University of Minnesota to see if they have any requirements such as a minimum score. I am just glad that it is over for now.

    Adding injury to injury
Well, as most of you know I have been getting better. I have been doing physical therapy and feeling better. Well today as I was getting up to go to physical therapy my left ankle as well as my left foot, which has been weak, decided it was not going to work as I was walking down the stairs. Which quickly turned into falling down the stairs. My foot hurt pretty bad and I knew Brandon was on his way home because we only have one car (due to the hit and run a week ago last Sunday). So I laid on the floor until he got home and he helped me up and we went to the ER. After some pain meds and x-rays we found that I have a pretty bad sprain and I am suppose to stay off of my foot for 3 weeks and seen an orthopedic doctor on Thursday. So now I cannot walk which is part of my therapy and I have to use crutches which is hard on my back. I am pretty frustrated by the whole thing because I have been being really carefully not to get hurt. I do not think I hurt my back but I am pretty sure I am going to be sore tomorrow.

For those of you who did not know my car was hit by some random person a week ago last Sunday. It has been in the shop getting repaired for over a week now. So far there is more then $4000 worth of damage to the car. But it sounds like we will have it back by the end of the week.(Hopefully)

Well that is about all that is going on for me right now. Hopefully this bad luck will stop soon.

    Back Update
I had a doctors appointment yesterday and since I am still having numbness, weakness and pain in my left leg and foot, they decided to do another MRI next week. They can not explain why I am having pain in my foot when I go to the bathroom.
They said there is a possibility that there is part of the disc that was missed because it was so big or that there was a change and I either re-herniated or the herniation that I had below the big one shifted after they opened up the space and is now causing a problem. Either way we need to know what is going on before I can start physical therapy. I am suppose to be walking 1 hour twice a day so if anyone is interested in walking with me please let me know. Other then that. We just have to wait and see what this next MRI says and then from there they will decide if I need to have surgery again or if there is something else going on and I will need further testing. Well that is my news for the week and I will keep you posted on what I find out about my MRI.

    Back Update
We went in yesterday to get my stitches out. I am very happy that they are out now and there is not as much pulling on my skin. Hopefully from here on out things will get easier and easier. I still have some numbness in my leg and foot but the weakness is getting better. They said it could take months for the numbness to go away.

Yesterday Laila came to stay with us. She is my Friend Sarah's (the one in Iraq) Dog. She has been really good the kitties seem confused and at times angered by her presence. Charlie just hisses and cries at her. Desmond seems scared but confused at the same time. He will walk past her with his tale all puffy and growl at her but will stay with in a pretty close range. It has made him stop crying all the time though. I think he is trying to hide from the dog and that he realizes that if he doesn't cry maybe the doggie won't find him.

I am really looking forward to having her here until next week. We are going to be going to my cousins wedding this weekend and hopefully all goes well there. I am not sure how I will do personally but I think it will be nice to be down and to be with family. My parents are going to have their dog, plus 4 cats and my cousins dog and Laila as well as my siblings all staying at my parents house it is going to be a zoo there, but it should be a good time.

    Surgery Update
I am doing ok, I am not going home today as Brandon said due to the pain. The surgeon came by this morning and told me that the herniation that they pulled out was about the size of his thumb which is one of the biggest he has seen. But he said everything worked out well. They added more pain medication to mix in they are trying to find the right mix for me. I am now getting dilaudid, Tordol, valium, oxycodone, decadron. The last two were the new ones they added this afternoon and hopefully they will help and they ordered my sleeping medication so I hope I will be able to sleep tonight and I will feel better tomorrow. My throat is sore from having to be intubated so my loving husband brings me chocolate shakes to make me feel better, if anyone else wants to stop by and visit feel free. I think that I will be starting some physical therapy today as well.

Good news is they were able to go around my tattoo on back so it is intact. Hurray for Froggie!

    Out of Surgery
I am out of surgery. When I came out of Anesthesia I was pretty freaked out. I didn't know where I was or who was with me, which is a pretty normal response. I am in a lot of pain in my back as well as my leg and my throat from the tube they used to help me to breath during surgery. I am going to have to get up soon because I need to go to the bathroom and I need to sit on the edge of the bed at some point. I am drinking plenty of water so my IV will be stopped soon I hope. Brandon has gone home and I am watching Hook. My leg is still numb and fells funny. I am hoping I feel better tomorrow and that I will be able to go home but. This pain hurts way worse then it did the last few days when I was at home so we will have to wait and see what they say tomorrow.

    Surgery
Well I saw the neurosurgeon today and he said that on a scale of small, med, large and huge, my herniation is huge. Unfornuately this means that I need to have surgery. The plan is for surgery on June 4th at 3:45 (sorry Smae I am going to have to cancel our date) I should only be in the hospital over night if all goes well so we will hope for the best.

    Spinal injection
So when my doctor called me last night he told me he was going to put the order in for me to see an interventional radiologist so that I could get steroid injections. So when I called the hospital to schedule my appointment today they said that the order that my Doctor put in were not right and they tried to call the clinic but had to leave a message. So I tried to call the clinic and they told me that my doctor was not working today so I would have to wait until Monday to get the right order. I asked to speak to a triage nurse to see if anything else could be done and she was going to have the doctor that was covering today take a look and see what she could do. She was able to correct the order and at 2:45 I called the hospital to see if I could be seen. They said they could see me on Monday. Being that I was in a lot of pain I asked if there was anyway I could be seen today and the doctors agreed that if I could make it to the hospital before 3:30 That they would give me the injections. So I moved as fast as my slow moving body could and we made it in time.
The injection hurt but in a different way if was like an intense pressure in my leg and back. Then I had to say for observation for at least a hour. They had me take some percocet and then had me get up and walk. They seemed concerned and surprised at the amount of pain I was having and I explained to them that I was not having any more pain then when I came in this afternoon. So they let me go home.
They said the numbing meds would work for about 2 hours and then my pain would be were it has been for 2 more days then it should start to get better. So I am hoping it does. Because I was in so much pain this morning I could hardly move and I could not get comfortable no matter what. To make matters worse the pain was also radiating down my left leg to my mid calf which it was not doing yesterday. Right now I am pretty comfortable (as long as I don't move) and hopefully will stay that way.

    Back update
Well my Doctor finally called me back today with the results of the MRI I had on Tuesday. We found that I have a significant herniation at the L4-L5 Vertebra which is pressing against my nerves and I am not having the associated pain with my legs like I should have so we were confused about that. But he agreed that something needed to be done. So he made a referral for me to see an Interventional Radiologist so that I can get steroid injections in my spine to hopefully decrease the swelling. I will call tomorrow to find out when that fun event will take place. He said that if they are either unable to do the injections or they don't work then I will need to see a neuro-surgeon and talk about having surgery. Hopefully the injections will work and I will feel better. Wish me luck.

    My poor back
I was down in Chicago this weekend helping my friend get her nursery ready for her new baby. I left on Thursday with a cold no big deal and it eventually got better a couple of days later. But on Friday when we were unpacking boxes my back started to hurt, which surprised me since we really had not done any heavy lifting to this point. Over the course of the weekend my back started hurting more and more. As long as I kept moving everything seemed to be alright. MY back still hurt but not as much as it did when I sat down to take a rest. I came home on Monday after a very painful plane ride and went to bed. With the plan that I would go see the chiropractor on Tuesday. I went into the chiropractor only to find out that I have a herniated disc in my back. So on Wednesday I went to the doctor where they did some x-ray's which showed them that my alignment is OK and that I have even spacing between my discs. So they gave me some pain killers, steroids and a muscle relaxer. All of which seem to be keeping the pain down. The sad thing is that I am off of work at least until next Wednesday when I will be re-evaluated and they will let me know when I can go back to work. So as of right now I am missing 5 days of work between this week and next and I won't know how long I am out it really depends on how my back heals. I am suppose to do exercises every hour and I am not suppose to do anything around the house and I am suppose to lay down and rest. Which makes me very bored. We were able to place the air mattress on the living room floor since the dog wants to lay by me and there is just not enough room on the couch for both of us. I am currently on a medical leave at work and when I talk to them this morning they have a program to figure out how long people with my condition are usually out for and they have me out for a month unless my doctor says otherwise. I really hope it is not that long since I am pretty sure I can not just lay around for a month. I am really hoping I will be able to go back to work soon with some restrictions at least that way I will get paid. If anyone wants to come and keep me company they are more then welcome to just keep in mind all I get to do is watch movies. Luckily Brandon brought me to Joanne Fabric so I could get a few projects to work on to keep my mind occupied. Otherwise I would go insane. Wish me luck on a speedy recovery because I am going to need it.

    Still a little shaken up
Today I came home from Home Depot for lunch and it was a good thing I did. I came home and I went out to talk to Marge my neighbor because I was curious why the people across the street had boxes in their front yard. Bob was feeling weak and needed Marge needed some extra help getting him into the car. I helped him and he had a scrape on his arm so she went in the house to get some band-aides a glass of water and his aspirin. He was feeling short of breathe and told me that we better call the ambulance so I told marge and she called them. A few minutes after she called I was stilling with him and I told him to take some deep breaths to help him catch his breathe two breaths in he stopped breathing and he didn't have a pulse. I immediately started CPR and took him out of the car and continued to do CPR until the ambulance arrived. He did not have a heart beat when the paramedics got there but they got his heart beating on its own in the ambulance. I drove Marge to the hospital and stayed with her until they got him settled in the ICU. His heart is still beating on its own but he still is not breathing on his own, but he is on the ventilator. I am just thankful that I decided to come home for lunch and was able to help. Apparently I was suppose to be here to help and I was glad I could. We don't know anything new at this point in time but Marge is keeping us posted on how he is doing and I hope that he is going to be ok. Please keep in him in your thoughts.

    NEW JOB
I thought I would give you an update on my job search. Today I was offered a job at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. I will be working on the Telemetry floor which means that I will be working with patient who have heart monitors and those who have had open heart surgery and other heart related surgeries. This is a step above where I was told to start out and a just one step below the ICU floor that I will eventually want to work on. I am pretty excited that I got this job I just wish I could start a little earlier then January 8th. But they want to be sure that I have taken my state tests and that I am licensed to work, so I understand that. I will be making pretty good money too I will be starting at $26.22/hour and $2 more an hour on the days that I will be working night shift. There is also a pay increase every year that I am there so I will work my way up the pay scale.
